How to Play DVDs and .mpg Files on Windows 10 for Free

One thing that sucks about Windows 10 is that Microsoft has removed the ability to play DVDs and .mpg files in Windows Media Player! This apparently is due to licensing issues. So, how do you play DVDs on your Windows 10 system?

  1. First, check to see if you have the Windows DVD Player app installed. If you have it, and it works for you, then great.
  2. Next, check for other manufacturer-installed DVD player apps that might have been pre-installed on your computer. If you’ve got one, you’re set.
  3. For the rest of us, the answer is VLC media player. This is a totally free to download and works great on Windows 10!!

If you are running on a 64-bit system, download the 64-bit installer.  Otherwise, use the regular installer.

In addition to doing a great job of playing DVD files, it’s got a lot of cool features like EQ, audio sync adjuster, video effects, and more.

It also does a great job of playing .mpg files!

In short, it’s awesome! Download it if you need a DVD player on your Windows 10 system! – Brian
